Although the roles are played by actors this doesn't in any way distract the viewer from the intensity of the subject matter. The frightening truth emerges that some men are convinced that women themselves are to blame. As one man puts it "the problem is my wife”!

In co-operation with "Männer gegen Männer-Gewalt®“ (Men against Male Violence) Calle Overweg explores the theme of domestic violence against women. He shows us, under laboratory conditions and employing genuine violence counsellors and (genuine) actors, men who are in the throes of an attempt to break free from the spiral of violence. The case histories portrayed in this film are freely devised as the result of lengthy research. Specialists in the field of domestic violence have gone to great lengths to ensure that the men depicted in every way resemble those in genuine cases.
Any similarities to real persons are intentional.
Arnold Dammann plays: Friedrich Mohnheim, executive with a shipping company, father of two, he has been beating his wife for 18 years.
Hermann Killmeyer plays: Dr. Walter Pressinger, medical director, surgeon, father of three,has been beating his wife for 9 years.
Michael Baral plays: Markus Schmidt, unemployed journalist, beat his girlfriend to such an extent that she is in danger of persistent damage to her health.
Frank Meyer-Brockmann plays: Andy Wessinghage, taxi driver, antique dealer, his children live with his ex-wife, has been beating his girlfriend for three years
