The Old Elephant Route is an adventure into some of the world's most vast, unexplored wilderness from Assam (India) to Northern Burma (now Myanmar) to find out whether migration and essential interbreeding of isolated elephant herds still exists.
Prajna Chowta, a young Indian ethnologist trained in the West, and her two companions travel by elephant and on foot over 340 kilometres. It is a story full of hope as one determined young woman demonstrates the courage, compassion and commitment necessary to refuse to sit back and watch a magnificent species die out in her lifetime. Prajna returns triumphant, having found what she went in search of. Hope. Yet knowing that her journey to save the Asian elephant has only just begun.
