This is the story of two brothers. Giora, the most talked about MIA of the Yom Kippur war, and Gili, who has been searching for him and for himself ever since.

In 1973, on the first night of the Yom Kippur war, Giora Meisler, a tank driver in the Sinai peninsula, went missing under mysterious circumstances after his tank was hit by Egyptian forces.

Fireflies is a film about three journeys. It is the story of a 12 year old boy, a 24 year old man and a 44 year old adult in search of answers.

This is also the story of Giora, who will forever remain 19. Through interviews with his friends and army commanders who remember him, laugh and cry at the thought of him, the story is told and questions arise. How is it possible that a tank could vanish without a trace? How can one friend insist he saw Giora only days after the army insists his tank was hit? And what exactly happened out there?

Gili didn't choose to travel down this path, it came upon him. He didn't choose his life's journey. At 12 year of age he lost his big brother to a war and suddenly become an only child. While his parents exhausted all efforts to find Giora, 12 year old Gili was left to confront his own sense of loss and guilt. That was the 1st journey.

In 1985 Gili, now a young man, travels to the Far East. It is there that a series of events and signs led him to believe Giora may not be lost forever, and that he should re-new the search. When there are no answers, the mind can turn imagination into reality and dreams into visions. Carrying the baggage of a brother lost, the hope he might still be found, and under the influence of hallucinogenic drugs, Gili ventures on a new Journey and decides to search for Giora of 1973, in Nepal of 1985. That was the 2nd journey.

The 3rd journey takes place in 2005 - It's been more than 20 years since Gili's trip to Nepal, and he prepares for yet another journey, which, this time, he has chosen to take. He ventures back to Nepal, back in time, and retraces his steps in an attempt to understand and finally close the mystery that has haunted him throughout his life.
